Full Description
A simple two-story timber-framed gatehouse is shown on a view of the house forming part of an early estate map of Vale Royal (given as 1616 by Ormerod). It stands at rightangles to a straight drive to the entrance porch of the house (1). A very simlar gatehouse is shown on the Buck Bros view of Norton Priory. It had been demolished by 1774 (2). Geophysical survey located drive and possible site of gatehouse (3). Farmer reports stone foundations on ploughing.
