Full Description
Frodsham `Free' Grammar school was funded c.1664 or 1688 by John Bushell of Hackney, London & was built by subscription. Headmaster chosen by 24 officiaries from township & lordship of Frodsham, including Vicar and churchwardens. It was situated in the SW corner of the churchyard. Original building was described as a neat building in stone, probably similar to that at Gt. Budworth(Rn:669/2). By early C19th it was dilapidated & beyond repair, so a new school was built in 1824 on land between the church and the vicarage. This building was demolished in 1892 & the present school was built on the same site (1).
