Summary

A round barrow which has been very much ploughed down. It is a slightly oval mound which survives to a height pf around 0.6 metres. It is a Scheduled Monument. Round barrows are a type of burial mound, particularly used in the Bronze Age. Mounds of earth and stone were placed over a burial or cremation. A single barrow could be re-used for several later burials.

Full Description

A round barrow, very much ploughed down. Possible c.15m in diam x c.61cm high. Fieldwalking by Mrs Pat Johnson has produced a small calcined flint, probably a scraper, 38mm long x 33 mm wide, which could have come from the mound material. Flint in CCC Planning Dept (1977). A further flint & a small fragment of bone were found later (1). Bowl barrow located on flat land 120m east of Village Lane. Includes a slightly oval earthen mound up to 0.6m high with maximum dimensions of 33m by 32m. Barrow has been spread by ploughing, but is survives reasonably well (2).
