Full Description
Fieldwalking on 7 March 1990 by the Field Archaeology Section, Liverpool Museum revealed 5 pieces of flint, N of a dried up stream course on S edge of field, on a slight eminence. Group consists of 2 blade cores, a probable core fragment and 2 chips possibly associated with flint knapping. Possibly Mesolithic in date. Appeared to be 2 possible foci of activity, other may be in pasture field to S. The fact that cores are involved suggests the site is more significant than the number of finds implies (1). These finds differ from those found in other areas during Ron Cowell's fieldwalking survey. They represent activities based around the reduction of flint nodules for the manufacture of implements. Nature of site is unclear, as most of field was under pasture. Possibly only the edge of a larger site was located, or ploughing may not yet have disturbed the site too much (2).
