A possible Roman road surface was found in the Abbey Arms Wood on the northern side of the modern A54. It is though to be part of the Roman road from Chester to Middlewich though it deviates slightly from the Roman line.

In February 1982 possible metalling of the Roman road from Chester to Middlewich was found in the Abbey Arms Wood on the northern side of the modern A54 where it deviates slightly from the Roman line.
