Full Description

In March 1984 a layer of small cobbles, 27 feet wide, set in mixed yellow clay was found about 2 feet below ground level on Handford Brook Farm. Many of the cobbles seem to have been removed, but they appear not to have been natural and the division between the mixed clay and the soil was marked and uniform along the layer of stones. Probably part of the Roman road from Oakmere to Cuddington (1).
