Summary

A cross in Delamere Forest was one of the seven destroyed by puritan iconoclasts in early 17th century. The example in Delamere Forest is described as a stone pillar on stepped stone box. The 19th century historian, Ormerod shows its position on his map of Delamere Forest. It is believed to have been late Saxon in date. (899 - 1099AD)

Full Description

A cross in Delamere Forest was one of the seven destroyed by puritan iconoclasts in early C17, leading to a case in Star Chamber. The example in Delamere Forest described as stone pillar on stepped stone box. Ormerod shows position on his map of Delamere Forest (1). Position shown on contemporary plan (3). May be the same as RN: 836.
