Full Description
A series of post holes, representing timber buildings associated with Flavian / Trajanic period pottery, closely followed by stone (rubble) architecture with clay and opus signinum flooring dating to between AD 120 – 200, were found during archaeological excavations at 46 – 50 Foregate St. in 1961 (1).
Within the confines of the excavation areas, the layout and extent of these buildings was difficult to determine. This period of occupation was followed by a heavy sandstone make-up layer and associated third to fourth century architecture (CHER 8137/2).
