Summary

Site of Onston Mill. References to Medieval mill recorded. Recorded on historic maps since 1777. Last used as a sawmill in the early 20th century before it was demolished. The dry pool and stonework of the sluice were visible in the 1960s, subsurface archaeological remains are expected to survive in this area

Full Description

<1> Norris J.H., 1968, The Water-Powered Corn Mills of Cheshire, p.68 (Article in Journal). SCH6001.

The site is now occupied by a bungalow and the dry pool is clearly defined along with the stonework of the sluice. The mill was last used as a sawmill in the early 20th century. Demolished as it interfered with water to Acton Mill. References to a mill at "Ownston" in 1544
