Full Description

Diminutive bronze flat axe of Early Bronze Age date. Length 60mm, blade 29mm, shaft thickness 6mm. Outer surface is patinated, pitted and coarsely moulded. No evidence for bivalve mould. Found with metal detector c.4in down in topsoil. Within 30m of an area of pebbles visible on field surface. No associated finds (1). Fieldwalking of part of the field after ploughing produced a single struck flint, perhaps a core trimmer but of unknown date. Field is gently sloping with a mixed sand and clay subsoil. No evidence of a mound at axe findspot (2).
