Summary

Grade I listed St Helen's Church. It is a mixture of 14th, 15th and 16th century styles, with 19th century alterations and additions. It originates in the 14th century origin and was enlarged in the late 15th/early 16th century and then restored in the 19th century. It is built of red sandstone and has a West tower. Along with St Mary's, Nantwich and St Michael's, Middlewich, this is one of the three major medieval salt town churches in Cheshire. Part of a medieval graveslab with crude floriate cross survives in church. It was found in 1841, covering a body carrying a hazel wand and a penny.

Northwich was served by St Helen’s Church at Witton, which lay in an isolated position, 700m east of the town. It was a parochial chapel of the Parish Church of Great Budworth, which lies 3.5km to the north. St Helen’s Church contains work from the 14th century onwards, with much Perpendicular work (late 15th to early 16th centuries) and extensive Victorian restoration
