Full Description
<1> Baines T, 1867, Lancashire & Cheshire Past and Present, Vol 1, p.262 (Book). SCH1878.
Pre 1867 - 'Urns containing calcined bones, large quantities of Roman pottery, and a mortarium inscribed MARIVS FECIT, have been recently found at Castle Northwich, within the position occupied by the Romans in ancient times'.

A mortarium, found at Castle Northwich, was found by the Rev W Hadfield. Afterwards owned by Rev Gilbert Greenall. Pre 1876 - A mortarium inscribed SOLVS.F, found at Castle Northwich. Also a third brass of Aurelian found at Castle Hill.

This is possibly the same mortarium referred to above.
