Summary

A number of Roman objects were found during construction of a house in 1852. They included three or four red pottery vessels, the neck and handle of a large amphora, coins, roof tiles and a dark blue, ribbed, glass bead.

1852 - During construction of the house of Mr Rothwell were found three or four red pottery vessels about 8 inches high; the neck and handle of a large amphora and a dark blue, ribbed, glass bead, 1:25 inches in diameter externally. Also two silver coins of Tiberius and Sicinia and one second brass of Vespasian were found.
1861 - During construction of Highfield to south of Mr Rothwell's property, large quantity of Roman tiles, pottery and a jug 10.5 inches high and 22.5 inches in circumference were found. Also many fragments of samian and glass vessels and a small lead lamp, which were all removed to Mr Williams house in Manchester and have not been seen since.
