Summary

The Queen's Head Hotel is a Grade II listed building. It was built in the 17th century with the front being rebuilt in the early 19th century. It has rendered brickwork and a grey slate roof. The coach house at the right of the rear yard has an upper storey said to have been the meeting place of the court of the manor in the 18th century. The interior retains some 17th century beams and plasterwork. Until the reign of Queen Victoria, the hotel was known as the King's Head. In the 18th century the property was owned by partners in the salt trade. The property included several fields, a bowling green and an orchard at the back of the house and various stables, coach houses and gardens.

Full Description

Queen's Head Hotel. 17th century with front rebuilt probably early 19th century. Rendered brickwork, graded grey slate roof. Attached coach house at right of rear yard has upper storey said to have been the meeting place of the court of the manor. Interior of inn has two, probably 17th century, oak beams and good 17th century plaster ceiling in upper room with raised foliated pattern (1). Full architectural description (1) and (2). Until the reign of Queen Victoria, the hotel was known as the King's Head. In the 18th century the property was owned by partners in the salt trade. The property included several fields, a bowling green & an orchard at the back of the house & various stables, coach houses & gardens. During the late 18th century the court leet of the manor was held in the upstairs room of this building (3).
