Full Description
The Bear's Paw Hotel, Main Street, Frodsham. House, now public house, 1632 restored 1903-4 by Douglas & minshull. Red coursed sandstone rubble; slate roof. Door lintel inscribed 'W:L:ANNO:DOMINI:1632. Interior: altered (1). Full archictectural description (1) and (2). Sometmes referred to in earlier times as the Lion's Paw. The sign is the coat of arms of Earl Rivers of the Savage family, the crest being a bear's paw. In the 18th century the inn was known as the Bear's Paw Hotel and Posting House. Railway Hotel was added to the name in the mid 19th century (3).
