<1> Thompson Watkin W. T., 1886, Roman Cheshire: A Description of Roman Remains in the County of Chester, p.256 (Book). SCH2878.

In 1882 during construction of Mr Marsh's house, at the foot of Winnington Hill, a quern; a small cinerary urn of light red ware, 2 3/4 inches high and 2 1/4 inches in diameter; and a small bronze spoon 5 7/8 inches long were found.

<2> Thompson, F.H., 1964, A History of Cheshire. Volume Two: Roman Cheshire, p.89 (Book). SCH2862.

Thompson suggests the urn is in fact a small beaker of late second or third century type, suggesting occupation rather than a burial.

<3> Greenwood HM, 1986, Condate and the Roman Road near Sandbach, Cheshire History, Vol 17, 1986, p.24-5 (Article in Journal). SCH8701.

This reference suggests that the finds were two 'mixing bowls', coins 'covering the reigns of five emperors', a 'funeral jar containing the ashes of a child' and a quern
