Full Description

Formerly farmhouse, now public house: early seventeenth century with extension to rear dated 1848 and late twentieth century extensions. Brick nogged timber framing on stone plinth. Thatched roof and central brick chimney and gable chimney with an octagonal stack. Two-storey, three-bay front. Ten by two and three irregular small frames. Central doorway and inserted doorway at left end. Windows are three or four-light casements with glazing bars below, small metal casements above. East gable end has more regular timber framing and a queen post truss. Nineteenth century extension to rear has flat wedged gauged brick heads to casement windows.
Interior: of two main rooms, with chamfered ceiling beams. Reset chamfered bressumer to inglenook in public bar which has a continuous bench around the wall. Small enclosed bar to rear.

Former granary, now used for general storage. Probably 1844. Brick; Welsh slate roof. Two storeys. Large opening with strainer arch; three-light Yorkshire sash window above with small panes. Taking-in doorway to right return. Attached to left (and integral) a low outbuilding understood formerly to have served as a 'boar-house'.

Barn. Dated 1844. Brick in Flemish bond; Welsh slate roof. Some brick patching and repairs. Main elevation, three bays. First floor with oculi in stone surrounds with flat sills and breathers arranged in an X pattern between. Three doorways under segmental heads with stone hinge and latch pads, planked doors with strap hinges. A later doorway to the extreme right has a rectangular overlight. Both end walls are under deeply overhanging verges, with groups of breathers arranged in X and diamond patterns; to the street end a date-shield (1844) to gable wall, and two twentieth century windows to ground. Rear with two tiers of diamond and X patterned groups of breathers; first floor taking-in door concealed behind corrugated iron sheet. Two doorways (as to front) and a smaller opening to left. Simple king post and strut roof. The barn forms part of an attractive group with the Holly Bush Public House and granary.

This map depicts four buildings, three of which correspond with the house, granary and barn. The barn and the house correspond with buildings depicted on the the 1840 tithe map. A further building, also depicted on the tithe map, appears to be pigsties. It is labelled the Bowling Green Inn.

Sundial : dated 1816 on plate. Washed buff sandstone. Circular base with blunt nosed arris. Circular column on square plinth is half fluted and has a moulded cornice and a square cap with a square copper plate and a damaged gnomon.
