Summary

Grade II listed farmhouse. It was built in in the 17th century and is a fireplace inside is dated 1672. It is a timber-framed on a stone base with some brick repairs and 20th century alterations. There is corrugated iron over the thatched roof. Wood was in plentiful supply as a building material in Britain until the 17th century. It was therefore the most practical material for house building. Timber framed buildings consist of a wooden framework (usually oak) that was infilled to create solid walls. Infill material used included wattle and daub, lath and plaster, brick and weather board. Brick nogging, (brick infill) was often used in the 17th and 18th centuries to replace earlier wattle and daub or lath and plaster infill as it was longer lasting.

Full Description

Sandhole Farmhouse, Sandhole Lane. Dated 1672 internally with some 20th century alterations. Timber-framed on stone base, some brick repairs. Corrugated iron over thatched roof. Two-room baffle entry plan. 8 x 2 regular small frames to main portion of two-storeys and three bays (1). Interior has chamfered ceiling beams and a wide fireplace with a stone jamb and corbel engraved IM 1672 (2).
