Monument record 12000/44 - Chester City Walls - Cow Lane Gate

At the north end of Frodsham Street, where Cowlane Bridge now stands, stood an outer gate in the City's defences, called Cow Lane Gate. It was demolished in 1772 (1). This site has also been referred to as Cow Lane Turnpike on historic maps of the City produced in the mid-seventeenth century (5).
