Full Description
Former Font,1m north of the nave of St Peter's Church, half way between north porch and chancel. Probably early 17th century, of red sandstone. Circular shaft on moulded base, belled out to octagonal head, each side of which is decorated with a pattern of six arcs. Octagonal dome top made of two stones with a shallow octagonal basin. Font is just over 1m high. Full description (1). Richards suggests that this stone is from the original Aston Chapel (see RN: 933/1/1). He describes it as much damaged & it may have served as a capital or formed part of an elaborate finial. A shallow recess on the top suggests it may have been used as a plague stone (2).
