Summary

Grade II listed churchyard wall. And Lychgate at St Peter's church. The wall dates to the 17th century and the lychgate was repaired in 1908. The wall is red sandstone and the lychgate is oak-framed with a red tile roof. A lychgate is a covered gateway to a churchyard. They were traditionally placed to allow shelter for funeral corteges while they waited to be met by the priest.

Full Description

Churchyard Wall, north and east of St Peter's church, and Lychgate wall probably late 17th century, repaired; lychgate 1908. Wall and plinth wall to lychgate red sandstone; lychgate oak-framed with red tile roof. Wall to churchyard of coursed tooled sandstone. Weathered coping with roll top. Wall c.l.2m high. Simple, substantial lychgate has gables. Full description (1).
