Find Spot record 997 - Roman finds from Alvanley

In 1886 in a field near Peck Mill, between Alvanley & Dunhan-on-the- Hill, a fine gold coin of Nero & a jewelled ring were found. The ring has disappeared, but the coin is in the possession of Mr Humphreys, a resident of the neighbourhood. On the obverse is the head of the emperor to the right & NERO.CAESAR.AUGUSTUS. On the reverse is Jupiter seated to the left, holding a thunderbolt in the right hand, a sceptre in the left & JUPPITER CUSTOS. The coin is well preserved & weighs 113 grains (1). Petch reports the coin as now lost (3).
