Summary

Austerson Old Hall is a Grade II listed building. This hall was dismantled and removed from Austerson (in Crewe and Nantwich Borough) and re-erected at Alvanley in the 1980s. It was probably originally built in the mid 16th century. It is timber framed with an Elizabethan three-storey one-room cross-wing and a 17th century long wing of two storeys using re-used timbers.

Full Description

Austerson Old Hall, Yarrangall Green. This hall was dismantled and removed from Austerson (Crewe& Nantwich Borough) and re-erected at Alvanley in 1980s. Probably mid 16th century. Oak small framing with rendered panels, brown brick; clay tile roof. Elizabethan three-storey one-room cross-wing and a 17th century long wing of two storeys using re-used timbers. The cross-wing is of oak small-framing with closely spaced studs, on flush plinth partly of old brick, partly tooled sandstone. Interior: Cross-wing has two ogee-stopped ovolo beams to each storey and Queen post. Central truss carrying purlins with scarf joints locked over principal rafters. Long wing has lower storey of brick and upper storey of re-used oak timbers. The construction has been carefully executed using original timbers, old brick and tile wherever possible.
