Summary

Poosey Chapel was built by and belonged to Norton Priory. It was built in the reign of Henry III, with the priest being provided by Norton Priory. It was constantly frequented by the neighbourhood until Robert Lord Kilmorey came to live at Dutton where he kept a chapel. Then Poosey began to be neglected and by 1666 it was totally in decay, although part of the structure remained, according to Leycester. The name signifies 'Island at a pool' and the park pool was presumably the dead arm of the River Weaver under the bank of which lies Dutton Park.
