Summary

Two fragments of small ionic capitals and several broken flagstones were turned up by ploughing in Hermitage Field. These may be part of the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Leonard, which is also known as the Hermitage of the Rood (see CHER 869/1/1).

Two fragments of small ionic capitals and several broken flagstones were turned up by ploughing in Hermitage Field, reputed to be the site of a hermit’s cell or the Chapel of St Leonard. Pottery recovered from the field was mainly of the eighteenth century.
