Summary

The place name of Bartington is a possible medieval manor. A manor is area of administration introduced as a feudal estate after the Norman Conquest and used for over 500 years after. It was first mentioned in Domesday Book in 1086. Along with Barnton , it is frequently mentioned in early records as the manor of the Dutton family of Dutton.

Bartington, a possible medieval manor. First mentioned in Domesday Book 1086. This place & Barnton (SJ 6375) are frequently mentioned in early records & as the manorial interests mostly devolved upon the Dutton family of Dutton, they are not easy to separate (1).
