Full Description

Middle Bronze Age Palstave found in wet ground known as the 'Willows'. Well preserved and relatively uncorroded. It is of the standard type and size with prominently flaring flanges. However, the standard of casting is poor, with all the details and edges lumpy and irregular. There are also deep cavities undermining the bar stop. Either the double mound had become worn or the quality of craftsmenship was low. Date 1500-1100BC. Length 165mm. Maximum width of blade 70mm, width of shaft 30mm and maximum width of flanges 35mm (1).
