Type and Period (1)
Full Description
Two 17th century clay tobacco pipes found in Winsford. Location uncertain. Both bowls are of the elongated 'Broseley' type c.1660-1680. One has burnished bowl, 7/64inch bore & is stamped RG. The other bowl has a 6/ 64inch bore & is stamped TF. It is possible that the 'RG' bowl is of Chester manufacture, but it is likely that both were made at another hitherto unstudied centre, influenced by the north Shropshire industry at Broseley (1).
