Full Description
Built by the Lancashire and Cheshire Society for the Permanent Care of the Feebleminded and opened in 1902 for mentlly-handicapped children, the buildings designed by W G Higginbottom comprise a porter's lodge and two residential houses. A temporary school was built in 1905. Norbury Wyatt House, a residential house for boys and girls, was built in 1906 and a permanent school was built in 1906-7. Norbury House Farm was leased about this time and was used as a site for a purpose-built hospital with the farm buildings adapted as a works department. In 1925 Lane Scott House was built as a house for adult patients and a recreation hall and caretaker's cottage were constructed. Several other properties were acquired in the neighbourhood between 1919 and 1967. Full history and description (1).
