Summary

Midway was the original railway station constructed to serve Poynton. It operated between 1886 and 1887 when the replacement station to the north was opened. Historic maps depict depicts platforms on both the up and down lines. The station house is on the up line (eastern side) and a further station building is located on the platform on the down line (western side). A single siding is also located on this side, to the south of the platform. The station buildings at Midway were demolished in October 1887 with the exception of the station house, which still stands.

The Poynton Branch of the Manchester and Birmingham Railway Company was constructed between 1844 and 1845. The station at Midway was constructed to serve Poynton. A new station, on a more favourable level site, to replace Midway was proposed in 1884 and built between 1886 and 1887 (see CHER 2529/1/1). The station buildings at Midway were subsequently demolished in October 1887.

The old station house survives west of the London Road.

This map depicts platforms on both the up and down lines. The station house is on the up line (eastern side) and a further station building is located on the platform on the down line (western side). A single siding is also located on this side, to the south of the platform.

Poynton's first station was at some distance from the village. It closed when the present statio opened on the 1st August 1887.
