Full Description
<1> Shercliff W H, Kitching D A & Ryan J M, 1983, Poynton, A Coalmining Village, p.44-6 (Monograph). SCH2683.
Narrow guage (4'2") plateway running the length of Towers Road from North Lodge (SJ 9247 8518) to Lord and Lady Pits (SJ 9314 8346). A branch came off towards Lower Vernon Pits, later replaced by Colliery Railway. Built by 1840, closed by 1866, with only the sections inside pits surviving as narrow guage railways (not to be confused with the underground railways).
