Please read our .

Summary

Park incline branch line was opened in 1854, and ran from Park Pits to Albert Pit with the engine at Albert Pit. It closed in 1889, with the opening of the Park Pits to Quarry Pit line. Poynton was once a coal mining community with the colliery operating from the 17th century until its closure in 1935. A network of railway branch lines linked the different pits and allowed the coal to be transported to Manchester, Winsford and Crewe. A number of terraced cottages built for the miners can be found in Poynton.
