Full Description

The tiles comprised a pattern of two interlacing circles enclosing a quatrefoil with a trefoil at each corner. The floor was also decorated with a stag, split-crow or spread eagle and dolphins which were interpreted as being of heraldic significance, possibly relating to the benefactors of the monastery of St Michael’s. Although the location find was not discussed in detail, it was suggested by Harrison that it may once have formed part of St Michael’s Monastery, although there is, as yet, no evidence to support the existence of such a place.
