Full Description
A number of medieval pits were recorded on the premises of 37 Eastgate Street during archaeological investigations in 1985. The site, formerly occupied by Woolworth’s and now Next, had previously recorded medieval activity to the rear of the site during archaeological investigations in 1959 when a number of cess pits and possible tanning pits were encountered (CHER 10129). The 1985 archaeological investigations however only identified pits of an apparent domestic use. (1)
