Summary

A hunting lodge in Macclesfield Forest is first mentioned in 1374. This was replaced by 'the newe Chamber' mentioned in a survey of 1611. It is shown on the Tithe Award Map of 1848, and Burdett's Map of Cheshire 1777. Rectangular stone footings were visible on aerial photographs but this area is now covered by trees. Hunting lodges were distributed across forest lands so that the hunting party and thieir entourage had somewhere to stay after a days hunting.
