Full Description
During archaeological investigations into the Roman granaries discovered at Commonhall Street between 1954 and 1956 reference is made to a medieval cellar to the rear of Commonhall Street.
Although the medieval cellar is not discussed in detail, an examination of the fabric of the walls suggested that the lowest part of the Roman granary foundation could be seen in the floor of the west side of the cellar. The influence of the granary foundations could further be seen in the floor levels of the cellar with a sudden change in levels noted along the south side where the rock cut granary foundation trench presumably entered the cellar.
