Summary

Folly Mill was a Paper Mill built by Mr Abraham Day in the late 18th century. It was used to manufacture coarse paper (brown or blue) commonly used by grocers at that time. Unfortunately it was built in inaccessible spot and given name 'Abraham Day's Folly', another tradition holds that Day's folly was to twice rebuild the mill after floods had washed it away. By 1825 the mill passed into hands of Thomas Hope who also ran the paper mill at Whitelee. In 1825 the Mill was advertised as 'Folly Grove Mill'. It is now in ruins.
