Summary

The site of the farmstead of Winshaw which probably dates from the seventeenth century. Ruined walls, earthworks and below ground archaeological remains associated with the farmstead are known to survive in this area.

Full Description

Two adjacent buildings are depicted on this map and are named Winshaw.

This map depicts two larger buildings in separate plots and separated by a small field. The Eastern building, which has some small buildings associated with it is recorded as Bank Outhouses and garden. The western building is described as House Outhouses garden and Fold. Both are occupied by a Thomas Cooper.

A group of ruinous farm buildings, including a house, barn and other smaller buildings. Named as Winshaw on the 1849 Tithe Award (see 2). The waste heap produces some seventeenth and eighteenth century pottery, indicating an early site, perhaps established before the area was disafforested.

This map depicts two larger buildings in separate plots and separated by a small field. The eastern building is labelled Woinshaw.

A similar depiction to (4), but with greater detail. The larger buildings are depicted either having a number of partitions or as being made up of a number of smaller buildings. The label is Winshaw.

The majority of the buildings have been demolished. Only a few of the smaller buildings are still extant.
