Full Description
Bollard milepost. NE of Macclesfield Forest on Macclesfield to Buxton road. On original Macclesfield to Buxton turnpike (1759 - 1821). Cast iron mile post painted white with black lettering. In good condition inscribed: Macclesfield 4 3/4 miles, Buxton 7 miles, J. Harrison Ltd. Derby on post. Illustration (1). Cylindrical head on a narrower cylindrical post, with 3 panels. c.1820. One of a complete set of bollard mileposts on new Macc to Buxton turnpike of 1821 (2).
