Summary

Grade II listed Bollard milepost lies on the original Macclesfield to Buxton turnpike. It is a cast iron mile post painted white with black lettering. It is inscribed: Macclesfield 4 3/4 miles, Buxton 7 miles with the makers name J. Harrison Ltd. Derby on the post. It is one of a complete set of bollard mileposts on new Macclesfield to Buxton turnpike of 1821.

Full Description

Bollard milepost. NE of Macclesfield Forest on Macclesfield to Buxton road. On original Macclesfield to Buxton turnpike (1759 - 1821). Cast iron mile post painted white with black lettering. In good condition inscribed: Macclesfield 4 3/4 miles, Buxton 7 miles, J. Harrison Ltd. Derby on post. Illustration (1). Cylindrical head on a narrower cylindrical post, with 3 panels. c.1820. One of a complete set of bollard mileposts on new Macc to Buxton turnpike of 1821 (2).
