Summary

Site of Pott Shrigley Mill. A mill was first mentioned at this site in 1347. The area is now a cleared site, but evidence of culverts (water channels) has been found. A mill is shown to the north of the road on Burdetts map of Cheshire, 1775 and Bryants Map of Cheshire 1831. The 1st edition OS 25" map of Cheshire shows a group of buildings called Pott Mill, north of the road, adjacent to the watercourse.

Full Description

Site of Pott Shrigley Mill. First mentioned 1347 (1). Now a cleared site, but evidence of culverts has been found . Ref given as SJ 947 796. (2) A mill is shown to the north of the road on Burdetts map of Cheshire, 1775 and Bryants Map of Cheshire 1831(3). The 1st edition OS 25" map of Cheshire shows a group of buildings called Pott Mill, north of the road, adjacent to the watercourse(5).One of the buildings from the earlier map seems to survive in the current layout of Homestead Farm, which now occupies this site. (6) OS ref moved to area north of the road. (7)
