Summary

Remains of a brick folly castle in Adlington Hall deer park. Part of a group of mid 18th century buildings built by Charles Legh and is an early example of this type. The park is Grade II* listed on the register of Parks and Gardens.

A brick Sham Castle of c 1760 stands immediately outside the west corner of the park, visible from the path between the Hall and The Wilderness. One semicircular tower and part of the central arched gateway survived in 1997.
