Summary

Sandstone head. Found in a garden in Poynton, although exact location unknown. The features are carved in moderate relief. The corner of the right eye and the ridge of the nose have been damaged at some time in the past and roughly restored with coarse plaster. It belongs to a large group of stone heads found throughout Britain. They have a "celtic" appearance but have been created in different periods including the post medieval.
