Full Description
Bronze Age palstave, found in 1935 at Lower Carr Farmhouse during digging a posthole. Findspot given as SJ 82967858. Sketch (1). Palstave found possibly in marl, in 1936 or 1937, while digging a hole for a gatepost at Carr Farm (also called Lower Carr or Common Carr Farm), SJ 834785, near a stream which flows from the direction of Alderley Edge towards Lindow Moss. Palstave has a prominent shield patten and is in excellent condition, with no trace of any bronze disease. Edge is very blunt, suggesting it was never sharpened for use. Butt show traces of hammering. Palstave is c.160mm long x c.61mm wide and weighs 412.4 gm. Sketch (2).
