Summary

An Iron Age disc or quoit-shaped loom weight was found in the gravel of the River Bollin at Macclesfield Cemetery. A loom weight is a pierced weight that was hung off the warp (downward threads) on a handloom to keep them in places as the weft (cross ways thread) was woven across.

An Iron Age disc or quoit-shaped loom weight, 4 ins wide x 1.5 ins thick. Found in the gravel of the River Bollin at Macclesfield Cemetery (1), in 1866 (2).
