Full Description
Tattenhall Hall, High St. Manor house, early C17 for Sir Richard Bostock. Interior alt 1858 for Robert Barbour. English garden wall bond brick, buff sandstone dressings. Welsh slate roof. 4 brick chimneys, diamond stacks. H- shaped plan. 2 & 3 storey, 5 bay front. Moulded stone plinth, stone quoins & stone-coped gables in kneelers, turned finials. Right end bay projects under gable & has 6-light ovolo-moulded mullioned & transomed window divided by King mullion & under hood mould. Similar 4-light window above under flat hood. BB CE 1712 graffito on quoin. 4th bay recessed. Remaining 3 bays project under gable. Plinth stepped with mullioned & transomed windows. Int: Plan of service rooms, simple cross passage, hall & extensive solar wing intact, but fittings nearly all 1858. Passage has original strapwork & figured iron grille in ceiling & service rooms have bead-moulded beams. House constructed before 1622 making it an early & complete eg of a brick blg in Cheshire.
