The site of Tabley Chappell, which was also known as The Chappell in the Streete. This chapel was erected c.1440 for the convenience of the Daniel and the Leicester families and their tenants. It was built between their two houses and was situated in the High Street of Over Tabley. Sir Peter Leicester described it as ‘…an old pitiful structure, ill placed…’ and it was taken down in 1677. When this chapel was built, the first chapel at Tabley Old Hall, built in the thirteenth century (CHER: 1230/2/1) fell into decay. This chapel at Over Tabley was replaced by the chapel built in 1675 adjacent to Tabley House (CHER: 1230/2/2).
