Summary

Grade II* listed Church of All Saints. It is timber framed and was built in the 16th century and is largely enclosed in a brick shell of around 1815. Original timber framing can be seen in the porch and the chancel. The plaster walls of the nave are painted to simulate timber framing.

Full Description

Church of All Saints,Pexhill Rd.Late C16,largely enclosed in brick shell of c.1815.Timber frame with rendered infill & brick.Slate roof.S front- nave of 4 bays.Timber framed gabled porch.Chancel of 2 bays with close studding below & chevron framing between timber mullioned windows.N wall- timber framed vestry with stone plinth & close studding.E wall-close studding below with chevron framing above.W wall-early C19 painted to simulate timber framing.Int:Nave of 3 bays with trusses of arched principals,2 purlins & a ridge beam with wind braces to both sides of purlins.Lower panelled ceiling to chancel supported on Tudor-arched brace supported on semi-oct wall posts. Chancel walls show framing,nave walls of plaster painted to simulate framing. Full arch desc (1).Church thought to have been founded in C14,but 1st docmtry evidence is a ref to this Chapel of Ease to Prestbury in will of Robert Sydington in 1474.Chapel not consecrated for baptisms or burials til 1721(2).
