Summary

Grade I listed Church of St Lawrence at Peover Hall Park. The south chapel dates to 1456 and the north chapel is probably of around 1648. With a tower of 1741 and a nave of 1811. Inside the the south chapel has alabaster effigies of Sir Randle and Lady Mainwaring praying from 1410. There are also other Mainwaring family tombs.The north chapel of 1648 is one of earliest regular classical buildings in the region. The church served as a private chapel to the hall. Little of medieval church survives the rebuilding of 1811.

Full Description

Church of St Lawrence,Peover Hall Park.S chapel of 1456;N chapel prob of 1648;tower of 1741.Nave of 1811.Ashlar walling with leaded roofs to N & S chapels.Brick with stone dressings & plain tile roof.Western tower, nave,N & S chapels.Interior:S chapel has alabaster effigies of Sir Randle & Lady Mainwaring.C19 panelled roof replacing truss roof.N chapel- wooden strap -work ceiling with pendants & sunken diamond-shaped panel to centre with coat of arms in relief.Marble sarcophagus of 1647 & 2 alabaster toomb slabs of 1593 & 1586-all of Mainwaring family.Nave-replacement of earlier body of church with undivided nave & chancel.Sarcophagus with praying effigies of John Mainwaring & wife 1410.N chapel of 1648 is one of earliest regular classical blgs in region.Full architectural description (1).Church was a parochial chapel of mother church of Rostherne.Church served as private chapel to hall.Little of medieval church survives reblg of 1811 (2).
