Summary

Grade II listed farmhouse built in the mid 17th century with mid 19th century alterations. It has white-washed coursed squared buff sandstone rubble walls with stone and brick dressings. John Wesley (founder of the Methodist church) stayed and preached here when he first came to Macclesfield in 1745.

Full Description

Shrigleyfold Farmhouse, Shrigley Fold Road. Mid C17 with mid C19 alterations. White-washed coursed squared buff sandstone rubble with stone and brick dressings. Slate roof and four brick chimneys. Three-storey, four-bay front. Windows are horned sashes in rough brick reveals, some with chamfered stone heads. Massive C17 chamfered stone doorcase. Flat stone- coped gables and kneelers. Interior: All partition walls have timber small-framing with plastered infill. Lower storey ceiling beams are chamfered with flat stops. Dogleg staircase. Front was originally twin-gabled. John Wesley stayed and preached here when he first came to Macclesfield in 1745 (1).
