Full Description
Fernhill Farmhouse, Chelford Road. Earlier 17th century origins, probably for Sir Thomas Stanley. Extensive rebuilding late 18th century/ early 19th century and three small 20th century additions. Brick with slate roof. L-shaped plan. Windows are three-light casements under segmental rough brick heads. Other fronts have similar heads, some to mullioned and transomed wooden windows with iron casements. Interior: cambered, chamfered fire beam with stone neck. Ceiling beams are sawn and raised. 17th century dog-leg staircase. Heavy purlins and ridge visible. Upstairs are visible remains of brick hood over fire, in front of which is a massive stone flag resting on the ceiling beams to act as hearthstone. Full architectural description (1).
